Fly fishing is one of the most highly valued activities at Estancia Don Joaquín. Thanks to our privileged location on the Río Corriente and Paraná river, guests have access to our very own river lodge, fully equipped with all necessary gear and accompanied by expert guides. This river is particularly famous for the chance to catch Freshwater Golden Dorado, one of the most iconic and sought-after species in Argentina’s sport fishing.
At Estancia Don Joaquín, we handle all logistics and transfers between the estancia and the river lodge, which is run by the Estancia’s owners’ sons, Diego and Ramon, allowing guests to enjoy full days of fishing with complete comfort and ease. This seamless experience combines the excitement of river fishing with the authentic life of the estancia.
For couples or groups with different interests, we offer the option to combine fishing and horseback riding within the same program. While some enjoy a full day of fishing on the river, others can take part in our horseback experiences at the estancia. If not, they can relax with a country spa treatment, explore wildlife on a safari, watch the birds, or enjoy scenic sunsets. Activities are coordinated flexibly, with shared meals and accommodation at the estancia, creating a balanced experience that lets everyone enjoy their preferred activities without losing the spirit of traveling together. That way, everyone gets their perfect day—and no one gets bored waiting by the river!
The dorado, known as the tiger of the rivers, is one of the most emblematic fish of Corrientes and the Paraná River. Famous for its strength and spectacular leaps out of the water, it can reach over one meter in length and weigh more than 20 kilograms, making it one of the most exciting challenges in South American sport fishing.
In the region, dorado fishing is practiced mainly catch and release, helping preserve this iconic species of the river. The team at Don Joaquín River Lodge and their guides are strong advocates of catch-and-release fishing and environmental stewardship. Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Estancia Don Joaquín. Breakfast. Transfer to Esquina Port, where your bilingual fly-fishing guide will meet you. Head out to the Río Corriente for your first fishing session. Enjoy an asado on a river island. Return to the estancia at sunset. Cheese platter and wine tasting. Dinner.
Day 2: Breakfast. Transfer to the port. Full morning of fishing on the Río Corriente. Gourmet lunch on white sandy river beaches. Afternoon return to the estancia. Evening asado by the fire.
Day 3: Breakfast. Transfer to the port. Full day of fishing on the Río Corriente. Lunch on the riverbank. Afternoon fishing session. Return to Estancia Don Joaquín. Afternoon tea with homemade pastries. Farewell dinner. Transfer to the bus terminal.
